For our single-question interview series exploring the evolving field of sensory art through the perspectives of artists, we reached out to Art Senses 2026 Mentorship Programme applicants whose project proposals earned special recognition. Attuning our senses to the more-than-human world, we invited Marta Djourina to reflect on the following question:
What forms of knowledge emerge through collaboration with non-human agents?
This question relates to our inquiry into sensory art practices that move away from human-centric towards more-than-human perspectives, cultivating new ways of relating to diverse living forms and invisible, life-sustaining ecological systems. Marta Djourina is a Berlin-based Bulgarian artist whose practice investigates how invisible forces can become visible through analogue photographic processes. She works with non-human agents, treating them as active collaborators rather than subjects.
